About Us
Winchester Youth Baseball & Softball Association (WYBS) offers baseball and softball programs for children ages 6 to 18 who reside in Winchester, Massachusetts.
Eligibility
- Baseball: Open to players ages 6–15 as of April 30 of the playing year. Players are assigned to leagues based on age.
- Softball: Open to players in a similar age range, with league placement based on school grade.
- Note: Exceptions to age or grade assignments are not made, regardless of playing ability or other factors.
Seasonal Programs
Spring Season
The spring program is primarily instructional, focusing on player development. It runs from April through late June and includes practices and games organized by age group - and, in some cases, by skill level. Younger players may also be grouped by school when possible.
Summer Season
The summer program is more competitive and limited to older age groups and players who are highly committed to the sport. Participation requires a greater time investment from both players and families. To be eligible for summer baseball or softball, players must participate in the spring season.
Organization and Volunteers
WYBS is a non-profit organization led by a dedicated Board of Directors. Our programs are powered by volunteers, from coaches to event staff, who help create a fun and rewarding experience for all participants. Training is provided for key roles like coaching to ensure our volunteers are well-prepared and supported.
League Affiliation
We are proudly affiliated with Babe Ruth League, an international youth sports organization that provides:
- Opportunities for tournament play
- Comprehensive insurance coverage
- Flexibility in how leagues are structured and managed
The Babe Ruth League supports both baseball and softball. The baseball program includes several divisions by age, with the Cal Ripken Division serving players 12 and under. This division, formerly known as the Bambino Division, was renamed in 1999 to honor Hall-of-Fame infielder Cal Ripken Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles.
