On August 15th, the Winchester 10U Bay State baseball team successfully defended their title as the Bay State Tournament Champions against a fired up Reading Red squad! The hometown fans were wowed by an absolute gem of a game as the Winchester 10s saved their best play of the summer season for the tournament finale with a 12-0 four inning, mercy victory.

Crafty Max Ricardson got the start and…Boy!… did he ever deliver! Richardson threw just 29 pitches, (22 strikes), in only four innings. He surrendered just one hit and his mound presence was absolutely key for the victory. Richardson was dominant throughout the summer and this was his day to celebrate with his teammates!

The Winchester 10U bats popped all summer long and this game was no different for this team of clutch hitters! With a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, scrappy 3B Parker Tammaro (2R & 2BB on the day), drew a key two out walk. Then table setters, shifty CF William Ferrari (2R, 2H, 1RBI on the day), and speedster LF Darin Shaw (3R, 1H, 1RBI, 1BB on the day), got on base. With the bags full, SS/3B Jack Silberhorn (3R, 2H, 5RBI on the day), cleared the bases with a seeing eye single to right field. Silberhorn was able to sprint home with some aggressive baserunning leaving the Reading Red team shell shocked and his teammates feeling the victory was in their grasp!

More power bats came from the twin towers… C River Maclin who rocked a double and had 2R and 2RBI on the day. 2B Shane Doherty bombed a three-bagger to the right-centerfield fence. Doherty was swinging a hot bat as he punished the Reading Red squad with a triple and an inside the park bomb earlier in the week while playing at host field, Andover.

This team makes a statement when at the plate but the engine that drives them is their steady defensive play. On this day, they were perfect! The infield vacuumed up everything Reading Red hit their way, and left fielder Shaw was ultra smooth when tracking the solo ball that was driven to the outfield.

The boys from Winchester scored 208 runs and yielded only 39 runs throughout the entire tournament! They went 18-2 over the course of the Bay State summer season. Phenomenal stats!

While the players and coaches are savoring their victory and consecutive Bay State championships,… they look forward to training hard and three-peating next year!
