The Winchester 12U team played flawless baseball this weekend to win gold in the second Trophy Weekend of the Bay State Tournament, their second trophy of the summer and first gold trophy ever! The offense scored 17 runs over the two games, while their pitchers gave up no runs and only 4 hits!

In Game 1 on Saturday against Haverhill, starter Luke Molloy pitched 4 shutout innings allowing only 2 hits with 2 strikeouts. The 12U offense delivered in a big way, driving in a total of 11 runs to force the mercy rule in the bottom of the 4th. Nick Penicaud, Noah Seitz and Brady Ihrig all had multiple hits, with Ihrig leading the team with 3 RBIs. Winchester broke the game open in the bottom of the 4th, with key hits by Spencer Thompson, Max Phillips, Nitin Munniapan, George Boksanski, Brett Daniels and Mitchell Collins to secure the win and advance to Sunday’s trophy game against Sudbury.

In Game 2, the 12s picked up right where they left off. Starter Stephen McCabe dominated on the mound, pitching 3 scoreless innings giving up no hits and striking out 3. The offense delivered again with key hits by Luke Sardone and Spencer Thompson, RBIs by Nick Penicaud, Noah Seitz, Nitin Muniappan, and capped off by a two-run home run blast by catcher Brendan Bock, the first of his illustrious career. That would be all the 12s would need behind solid relief pitching by Brady Ihrig and closer Nick “Bulldog” Penicaud to hold a strong Sudbury team to only two hits in the last 3 innings. Backed by solid defense by the entire team, the 12s committed no errors in the field the entire weekend to earn their first gold trophy and the #3 seed in the Bay State Tournament of Champions.
