Thanks to the efforts of Joe Lawler’s junior maintenance crew and the coaching staffs of the teams, the C diamond was playable for the Diamondbacks and Padres in a Memorial Day evening game under the lights. Justin Guidara started for the Dbacks and Michael Condron for the Padres. The Padres struck in the bottom of the first with a leadoff walk to Carter Meyer and a triple to right field from Luke Sardone. Sardone would come around to score to give the Padres a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the second, some aggressive Diamondbacks base running would lead to a costly Padres error on which two Dbacks would score to knot the game at 2. The score would remain this way until the 4th when Tyler Bernstein led off with a walk, followed by a Meyer single, another Sardone triple and a Luke Molloy RBI groundout to give the Padres a 5-2 lead. They would strike again in the 5th to break the game open and lead to an 11-2 final. Codron pitched four followed by two strong innings from Luke Molloy. For the Diamondbacks, Guidara was followed by Cole Cassidy, Max Philips and Mark Hatley.
