On Monday afternoon, the Athletics overcame the Red Sox 11-8. In the first inning the Red Sox gained an early 2 run lead when Thomas Casey hit a home run to score Richie Masterpol. The Athletics answered right back when Ronan O’Connell hit a grounder to score Owen Penicaud and Justin Muse stole home base. Great pitching and fielding from Nick Penicaud denied the Red Sox of any runs in the second inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Grady Doherty stole home and Damon Romanos drove Daniel Driscoll in on a groundout to give the Athletics a 4-2 lead. In the third inning the Red Sox netted a run as Jack Allen scored and solid pitching and fielding shutout the Athletics. In the fourth inning, Chris Sprague brought Max Shoeffner in on an RBI double. The Athletics came roaring back as Josh McCollough and Buggie Lyon got two runs. Then Justin Muse hit a 2 RBI double to score Grady Doherty and Daniel Driscoll and Ronan O’Connell followed with another 2 RBI double to bring in Justin Muse and Damon Romanos.

In the fifth inning, the Athletics refused the Red Sox of any runs thanks to excellent pitching and fielding from Ronan O’Connell. The Athletics managed to extend their lead by another run as Grady Doherty hit an RBI single so that Josh McCollough could score and bring the run total up to 11. The Red Sox looked to make a big comeback in the sixth inning and managed to score 4 runs highlighted by a big 2 RBI double from Thomas Casey. Luckily for the Athletics, closer Josh McCollough got a strikeout to secure the 11-8 win.
